Wedding photographer frequently asked questions
What happens if it rains?
It’s always a possibility, but rarely a problem. Some of the best photos come from a moody sky or a bit of drama, and I am happy to shoot in the rain as long as you are happy to go ahead and your wedding is small. With larger weddings, it’s much better to plan ahead for all possibilities to keep your guests warm and comfortable during the ceremony. Group shot locations will also have an alternative location if we cannot get outside.
Do you mind dogs at weddings?
You can probably tell from my photos that I love dogs, and small beach weddings suit bringing your dog along very well!
How many photos will we get?
There’s no fixed number. You’ll get the best edited images from your day, which for most weddings are between 100 and 600 depending on length of coverage. I shoot in RAW and edit each photo lightly but professionally. The final images will be JPEGs, and they will be the very best of the day’s photography whilst giving you plenty of choice.
Do you charge extra for travel or accommodation?
There are no travel or accommodation charges on Harris or Lewis. As I have two bases – one in Harris and one on the mainland- I will let you know if there would be travel charges for mainland weddings. I always keep my travel charges reasonable and at cost. If I have to catch a ferry to your wedding for a different Scottish island, it would be added to your fee, but costs are outlined and agreed beforehand.
Can you help finding other suppliers?
I have several links to hair, makeup, flowers, and pipers which can be found on my website depending on your location. Harris’s information is here
How long until we get our photos?
Your images will be delivered digitally within two weeks.
Do you travel to Lewis, or elsewhere in the islands?
Yes. I’m based on Harris but regularly shoot weddings across Lewis, including Lews Castle and the Cabarfeidh, plus village hall and marquee weddings. Travel is included, no ferry surcharge or extra accommodation fees. Lewis is an hour’s drive away from my home in Harris.
Do you shoot weddings on the mainland or in the Highlands?
Yes, and I’m based in the Highlands over the winter months and frequently during the summer. Summer dates available are date-dependent. I am extremely familiar with venues such as Achangairn Castle and Aldourie, which are on my doorstep on the mainland. My son lives in Edinburgh and is in a wedding band so I also know Edinburgh and Glasgow well.
Can we choose our own location for an elopement?
Yes. If you already have somewhere in mind on Harris, or anywhere else, I’m happy to work with it. If you’d like suggestions, I know the island well and can point you toward spots that suit your style and also adapt to the weather on the day. My own gallery is available if the weather is too poor to be outside in Harris.
Do you do posed group photos?
Yes, especially on full weddings. I think that group family shots are important, but it is also important not to spend hours and let the wedding become about group photos. I keep them quick and easy, with a pre-organised list so that everything is efficient. If you do not want any posed groups, however, that is also fine. It is your day and needs to be how you want it to look.
How do we book?
Get in touch by email; we’ll have a chat to see if we’re a good fit, then a booking form and deposit lock in your date.
Is there a booking fee?
Yes, a £150 booking fee secures your date, with the balance due a few weeks before your wedding.
