Cabarfeidh Hotel Wedding: Gillian & Hugh

Gillian and Hugh, originally from Scalpay on the Isle of Harris, were married at the North Harris free church on the Outer Hebrides. They held their wedding reception at the Cabarfeidh Hotel, with portraits taken beforehand in the Harris Hotel gardens. It was a large wedding of 170, with three generations of family travelling in for the day along with many friends from all over coming together to celebrate.

Getting Ready

The morning started at Gillian’s family home on Harris. Hair and makeup, champagne, special moments where the bridal party gifted Gillian a memory book filled with photos and special letters. These are the very unique moments on a wedding day before everything begins, and it is just the bride and her friends and family preparing for the day ahead.

The Ceremony

The ceremony took place at the North Harris Free Church in the heart of Tarbert, filled with guests who arrived from all over to witness Gillian and Hugh’s wedding.

Portraits at the Harris Hotel Gardens, Lodge in Harris and The Cabarfeidh Hotel

Family and group portraits were taken in the Harris Hotel gardens after the ceremony, just across the road from the church. We had a stop at a private lodge in Harris for some beautiful moments where Gillian and Hugh had some time alone to take everything in. They then travelled on to Stornoway to the Cabarfeidh Hotel, where the reception and evening celebrations were held. Of course those moments did involve one photographer, two videographers and a content creator – but we kept it fun and light and gave them plenty of space to breathe and take in the day. Between the venues there was no shortage of beautiful backdrops, the little bridesmaids and pageboys included, who were, as always, entirely unpredictable and entirely wonderful to photograph.

The Cabarfeidh Hotel in Stornoway is the largest wedding venue on the Isle of Lewis, and it’s easy to see why it’s such a popular choice for bigger weddings. The function room comfortably held the full wedding party and guest list for Gillian and Hugh’s day, with an, as always, impressive turnaround in the evening for the band and Ceilidh dancing.

Ragin’Ceilidh played through the evening and had the floor busy from the first dance onward. Hannah Bakes supplied the wedding cake. If you’re planning a large wedding on Lewis and need a venue that can handle numbers without feeling cramped, the Cabarfeidh is one I’d recommend from experience, having photographed many weddings there over the years.

Congratulations to Gillian and Hugh, and thank you for choosing me as your wedding photographer.
